Happy Saka Dawa!!
On the full moon day of Saka Dawa held on June 9, 2017 we commemorate Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana. As one of the four main Buddhist festivals held each year, Saka Dawa is a wonderful opportunity to put good intentions into action. Whether that is through attending Buddhist teachings, formal meditation, or putting the Buddha’s teachings into action in our daily lives.
Author of ‘Spiritual Friends’, Ven. Thubten Dondrub described how Buddhism is something that you “do”. It is necessary to first understand the Buddha’s teachings, and use reflection and formal meditation to integrate them into our minds and our way of thinking. Then we should seek out opportunities to put the Buddha’s teachings into action in our daily lives in order to benefit people and animals.
The objective is always to benefit people and animals in every action that we do, to increase the happiness of ourselves and others to the best of our abilities.
You can attend pujas and other formal practices held at Buddhist centers around the world. Here are a few reputable centers:
- FPMT centers:
- Kagyu centers:
